We were organized to help find homes for shelties in need of new homes. Our dogs come to us from shelters, owner turn-ins, or strays. The reasons people give for giving up their dogs are endless. Two of the most common include family health issues (i.e., allergy to dogs) and the family relocating and they can't take the dog, and of course there are some that no longer want a dog.

Sheltie Rescue of East Tennessee, Inc is affiliated with the American Shetland Sheepdog Association's national rescue group.  We are a small group of dedicated volunteers in the East Tennessee area that find loving, safe homes for displaced Shelties.  When a Sheltie comes into our rescue he/she is placed in a foster home.  While there, the physical needs, personal characteristics, and emotional stability of the dog is assessed.

At Heart of Kentucky, we are always on the lookout for the Sheltie in need. We take animals who can no longer be kept by their owners for any reason, animals that shelters feel would not be adoptable due to age or minor (or major)  medical problems, and animals that have been neglected or abused.

All Shelties in our rescue program will be treated for medical problems, spayed or neutered, given vaccinations, checked for heartworm and put on preventative. They are then fostered in loving homes to determine temperament in order to properly place the dog with the perfect family.

We are a tax exempt, non-profit corporation consisting of a small number of hard working volunteers who are dedicated to caring for and placing Shetland Sheepdogs into permanent and loving homes. Since 1994, over 850 Shelties have been received into our foster care program. Most of our Shelties come from Indiana and are fostered and adopted within the state.
