Description
French Bulldog
There used to be a Toy Bulldog that was widely kept by lacemakers in the English city of Nottingham. Forced out by increased mechanization during the 1850s many of these skilled craftspeople emigrated to northern France where some cross-breeding occurred. Crosses with terriers may have resulted in the raised ears that are so characteristic of the French Bulldog today.
Word of these bulldogs spread to the city of Paris, and soon they became fashionable pets in the capital and popular also in other parts of Europe and the United States.
