The AWMA is focusing on the development and implementation of the Malinois in accordance with the FCI standard

SBSDA continues to host eight (8) shows a year with six (6) of them including the BSD’s.  It continues to promote the Belgian Shepherd Dog as one breed with four (4) varieties and its continued success can only be contributed to the wonderful SBSDA members!

Our membership is comprised of hobby breeders and general enthusiasts who are committed to bringing the natural qualities of the Belgian Sheepdog to perfection; recognizing the standard as accepted by the AKC as the only standard of excellence by which the breed shall be judged.

Our members are Belgian Shepherd fanciers, enthusiasts, lovers, trainers, and breeders from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Our interests include conformation, obedience, agility, herding, tracking, therapy work, and breeding better, healthier Belgians. We support the "Total Dog" concept and share a love for the multitalented Malinois, Tervuren, Groenendael, and Laekenois varieties of the Belgian Shepherd.

In promoting the Belgian Shepherd Dog, the club engages in such activities as holding conformation shows and matches, fun days both for the camaraderie and the sharing of ideas, informational seminars, herding instinct tests, temperament tests, and other related activities. A general meeting is held each year in conjunction with one of the club's activities in the fall.

The Association has always been concerned with all the four varieties of Belgian Shepherd Groenendael (long haired black), Tervueren (long haired, all shades of red , fawn and grey with black mask and overlay), Malinois (short haired, colour as Tervueren) and Laekenois (wirehaired, reddish fawn with black shading). The Association is involved in aspects of showing, working and also runs an active Breed Rescue Service looking after the welfare of all varieties.

We have members from across Australia, and invite all who share our passion of this breed to join us to work together in our goals. Some of our members are show people, some are obedience people, some herd, some track, some do agility, but most members are families with a Belgian as a companion.

The UBSDA is the parent club for Belgian Shepherd Dogs affiliated with the United Kennel Club (UKC). The UKC was established in 1898 as a registry for purebred dogs, dedicated to the total dog concept.
